So You Want to Work In The Music Biz? Interview w/ Karon Lynn
About a month ago I had the pleasure of watching Karon Lynn teach a class over at Dance 411 in Decatur. Karon is an amazing teacher and dancer and he was kind enough to sit down with me for a "So You Want to Work In The Music Biz" segment. Hope you enjoyed it. Karon is just finishing up touring with Kristinia Debarge and you can spot him in the photos and videos from her tour below!

This Weekend In NYC ... Black Girls Rock
The 4th Annual Black Girls Rock! Awards were held Saturday, October 17 in New York City. Hosted by Tracee Ellis Ross and Regina King, honorees included poet/activist/playwright Dr. Sonia Sanchez, who was awarded "Living Legend"honors; Naomi Campbell accepted a "Fashionista" award; Janelle Monae received "Who's Got Next"recognition, ;Doug E. Fresh and Def Leopard guitarist Phil Collen presented Queen Latifah with the "Rock Star" Award; and Catherine Malandrino honored Mary J. Blige by introducing her as the 2009 Black Girls Rock! "Icon" Award recipient. Doug E. also performed his own hits, while Janelle Monae closed the show with a performance of her song "Sincerely Jane."
The good times were all in the name of a good cause. Mr. & Mrs. RJ Masi of RJ Masi World Construction and Interior Design (they have a new show on HGTV about "green" building) donated $25,000 to the Black Girls Rock! Inc. foundation (founded by celebrity DJ Beverly Bond), which was later matched by another $25,000 donation from Queen Latifah.

Sorry Nice Try: "Mama I Want To Sing" Trailer
I really wanted to say Boo Ni**a Boo, but considering this is sposed to be somewhat of a Christian film, I spose I will reserve that particular comment. Billy Zane put some sugar in his tank for this one. I see my boo from "Notorious" is playing Ciara's brother -- but that shapeup and mustache they have him sporting is doing nothing for the cause. Now that's something worth saying boo ni**a boo about.

Shameless Marketing & Promotion
My homie Tania AKA K.lee dragged me out to Onyx last night so that she could promote not one - but two - of our CREW related projects. If you haven't been introduced to Body Magic yet, that's the black bustier looking number she's rocking and she capped it off by wearing Safetyz men's boxers (I posted about them last week)on top. I'm a little more conservative than her so I wasn't sure about the 'fit, but Tania pulled it off like a champ -- getting more than a little attention from Onyx's DJ, the dancers and a good number of patrons.
Special shoutout to Dallas Martin @ Def Jam & birthday girl Monica over at Onyx.
Keep an eye out for more CREW related posts coming in the near future.
Keep On Serving It Up

Do it Whit... now that's a fierce bitch.
But at the same time I know I'm not lying when I say somebody is truly starting to look like Cousin Dionne, right?

Watch This: P*Star Rising
In case you haven't noticed, the Tribeca Film Festival kicked off last week and is drawing to a close this weekend -- but amidst the paparazzi shots of Sanaa Lathan and Sasha Grey, don't miss this incredibly gritty gem about a former breakdancer forced turned single father who finds himself living vicariously through his youngest child.
In the early '80s, Jesse Diaz was a rising star in the hip-hop world. Now a broke single father in Harlem with two children to support, Jesse finds a shot at redemption in his nine-year-old daughter Priscilla Star, a precocious and immensely talented rapper. Director Gabriel Noble follows four years of father-daughter ups and downs as they navigate the grit and the glamour of the music biz.
The final screening is this Saturday at 12:45 at the Village VII AMC 3

I Heart Audrey Tatou
Looks like a decent biopic is finally getting made of Coco Chanel -- guess I better brush up on my French. Audrey Tatou is that chick tho, she made me actually consider naming my still unconceived daughter Amelie.

Fashion 4 That Azz
Natasha from theYBF.com has pictures from Fashion Week, one of my favorite things about this time of year.

Look at my SANTOGOLD! She was spotted looking fab in the front row at Zac Posen next to Nicole Richie and Alicia Keys...
YBF also posted photos from the Essence Black Women in Hollywood luncheon. I picked a couple outfits for my closet. Tell me what you think.

I love Kerry Washington's style, and this glammed up blazer and skirt definitely caught my eye.

Orange is also a go-to color for me and I love dresses with sleeves lately that put the emphasis on curves.

Kanye's Artsy Fartsy Achy Breaky 808's and Heartbreak

Being the art buff that he is Kanye just announced plans for the artist KAWS to do the cover art for his upcoming album: "THE (FULL BODY) LENGTH OF THIS AND MORE COMES WITH THE ITUNES ALBUM AND WILL ALSO BE RELEASED IN STORES ON THE 16TH AS A SPECIAL CHRISTMAS PACKAGING."
'Ye is kinda bright on the marketing tip, and God knows these kids could use a little extra exposure to CULTURE...
